FAQs

Product Question

We source our pro stock sticks directly from 175+ teams across different levels, including professional, junior, and collegiate.  Our focus is on providing quality sticks at the best possible price so players can use what the pros use.

The sticks are intended for use rather than as collectables, so we generally do not list our products by which player, team, or custom colours the stick was initially made for.

Pro players generally get sticks in batches of 12 and rarely use them all.  What you see listed on our site are new, never used sticks, unless they are otherwise identified as (Refurbished).

Check out our wide selection of Pro Stock sticks here

The question we get asked most often is "What does pro stock mean?"

Pro Stock sticks and gear are equipment that was originally made and manufactured specifically for a professional player. Each player receives around 6-12 sticks at a time with their own specific curve, flex, height, or a variety of other custom options available to them. Pro players may only use 2-3 of these sticks before deciding they want to change up their specs, and the remainder they have in their locker never get used.  Players may also get injured or get traded resulting in surplus sticks and gear.

Players have a multitude of customizable options not available to the general public. These customizations include, but are not limited to: shaft shape, shaft dimension, flex-profile, weight, shaft thickness, blade thickness, blade stiffness, colour, logos, and grip type.  These customizations make it so that the stick itself doesn't have an exact retail comparable (different from what's off the shelf at the big box store). Given this, we must sell that stick as what its closest comparable is.

On average, NHL players use between 60-120 sticks a season, and NCAA or Junior hockey players use around 25 per season.

HockeyStickMan is able to buy all of these leftover sticks from pro teams in bulk, and offer top end hockey sticks to our customers at low prices. Shopping pro stock is a great way to save money on hockey sticks, and get a great deal every time!

Our philosophy has been the same from the start: minimize costs & keep a low overhead in order to provide the best quality sticks & gear at the best possible price.  Though we have now expanded slightly from our roots as a family business, we still stick to that same principle.

With a small team and limited advertising, we are able to allocate the bulk of our resources to acquiring sticks, and do not have to factor many other costs into the price we sell at.  Many people think our prices are too good to be true, so if you won’t take our word for it, check out some customer reviews here.

To put it simply, refurbished sticks are hockey sticks that have been broken in the shaft and then repaired by fusing the shaft together using the SRS System.

Every year we buy thousands of broken sticks from pro teams, of which roughly half of which are turned into refurbs (depending on factors like where the break is, blade condition, and specs of stick).  Using an internal shaft repair process, we are able to fuse the two portions of the stick back together.  Since our start in 2010, we have completed 50,000+ repairs, extending the life of top end sticks and providing them to customers at a great price.

Update:  The repairing of hockey sticks in order to provide top-end twigs at the lowest possible price remains a core tenet for HockeyStickMan - so much so that we have decided to invest ourselves as heavily as possible into the repair system.  We are excited to announce that HockeyStickMan has bought out and taken ownership of the SRS system itself!

You can actually purchase supplies for some at home-fixes, as well as read up more about the SRS system from our tertiary USD website here.

No.  All the pro stock sticks we bring in are made for pro players and sourced directly from their teams.  We unfortunately don’t have any control over which models and specs we get in, though what is popular with our customers generally reflects what is popular with pro players, and our inventory therefore usually aligns well with what is in demand.

Pro Blackout line and Retail sticks are replenished and brought in as needed on a monthly basis, and cannot be custom ordered.

The truth is that we receive new stuff all of the time.  The difficulty in dealing with Pro Stock items is that there are contingencies on the receiving end of things that are unique to our industry.  Between this and the wide array of specs and variables we deal with, it is next to impossible to know or notify when an exact stick in an exact spec combination will become available.

The Retail and Pro Blackout line of sticks would be an exception to this as they are restocked monthly, so nothing is ever out of stock for very long.

Our best advice is to subscribe to our newsletter at the bottom of our website, as well as follow us on Instagram and Facebook, as inventory drops are announced via these avenues. These serve as good indications of when it is a good time to check if that certain Bauer, CCM, True, Warrior, or Sherwood stick you've been waiting for has become available.

One of the objectively cool things about shopping Pro Stock sticks is that they're all custom made for a player/team.  Most will feature a player name, nickname, or team name.  Teams/Players will often also get sticks with custom graphics and colours.  Some players even have their own logo that will be added to the stick.

Over the years we have had requests to include this information in the product listing, but for several reasons continue to be against it.  First and foremost, the additional labour required to upload sticks including Player/Team/Colour would be significant and the price point of the stick would have to be reflected.

Our mission is to sell the sticks as performance pieces rather than memorabilia, so though cool, we only mention differences that we feel will impact play.

Finally, we want to protect our teams and athletes as best as possible.  Many prefer not to have items listed under their name, and we always do what we can to respect their wishes.

Generally, exact spec variants are only available in the one colour we have quantity in, so you cannot pick the colour of your stick.

Is the blade on your hockey stick thicker/fatter/taller than the standard?  You're looking at a Max Blade.

The Max Blade is a variation we have seen to a degree in the Pro Stock industry for some time.  However, the trend has picked up so much steam amongst the pros that it is now being offered on select retail curves by certain manufacturers.

It's pretty simple - essentially its just the same curve, depth, blade length, etc., but with a thicker or taller blade.  A thicker blade can be helpful for many reasons, but typically we point to tipping pucks, winning draws, and catching fluttery passes.

There's not much in the way of drawbacks for the Max Blade.  Some players have reported a lack of "feeling" the puck when you're stickhandling with your head up, or that the slight addition of weight to the blade affects the balance of their stick in a way that they don't like, but really, like many things in the stick industry, it all just comes down to preference.  Our recommendation is to give a Max Blade a shot if you're interested, but if it ain't broke, don't fix it, right?

Look for Max Blades in our variant listings as denoted with an 'M' following the pattern code, as well as "Max Blade" following the flex and height in the variant description.  I.e. P92M instead of P92.

Step 1: Cut off the damaged area

Start by cutting out the broken area of the stick. It is important to cut they damaged areas off to ensure the integrity of the repair area is restored.  Typically repairs will result in a 1"-2" shorter shaft.

Step 2: Install shaft-lock grooves™

This part of the process prepares the interior wall of the shaft for the carbon sleeve in step 3.

Step 3:  Insert Styrofoam and carbon fiber aircore sleeve™

The two pieces of shaft are aligned in a custom manufactured clamp, and then a specially designed Styrofoam piece is lodged in the bottom section of the shaft (approx. 1.5 inches down). Acarbon fiber Aircore sleeve™ (which is approx. 3 inches in length comprised of 2 layers of carbon fiber surrounding a foam centre) is then inserted into the hollow of the bottom piece of the stick until it reaches the Styrofoam. The top section of the stick is placed over the Aircore Sleeve, re-aligned, clamped together, and taped (to deter epoxy leakage).

Step 4:  Insert Resin

Resin and Hardener are then mixed together and poured down the inside of the shaft, effectively filling up the foam centre of the AirCore piece and conforming to the shaft lock grooves in a junior, intermediate, or senior shafts.  Thus, concealing the stick with an internal fix leaving minimal visual disturbance to the external shaft profile

Step 5: 72 Hour Break

Time to relax...The stick undergoes a 72 hour curing period in a temperate room until hardened.

The Top Ice Hockey Drinking Games for 2024

Step 6: "Snap-out" the stick

Once hardened it is necessary to then ‘Snap the Stick’, which requires the technician to firmly flex the stick in both directions until the internal repair has broken away from the inner shaft and is floating freely within the hollow while the carbon fiber grips into the shaft-lock grooves. This allows the stick to maintain the flex, kick-point, and performance integrity.  It may seem worrisome to hear a "cracking" sound when initially flexing, but it's truly all part of the repair process.

The Pro Blackout stick is a stick that HockeyStickMan has sourced straight from manufacturing.

The idea with these sticks is that we're trying to get a pro-grade stick in your hands for the lowest possible price.

They are an 18K carbon stick with a balance and feel that compares to the top-end sticks from the leading manufacturers.

The standard Pro Blackout features a hybrid-kick flex profile aimed to optimize your shot from anywhere on the ice.  The Pro Blackout Extra Lite features a low-kick profile for a lightning-fast release.

The Value Blackout, however, would be an opportunity-buy, blacked-out, mid-range stick that a manufacturer had in excess.  We unfortunately would not know what the actual stick would be, but what we can tell you is that we're selling them for less than half of their original MSRP.

All sticks come with a standard griptac finish with the exception of the Pro Blackout Custom Extra Lite sticks that feature the grip used by that specific player, outlined within the product description.

The standard Pro Blackout are all a 60" stock height, while the Pro Blackout Extra Lite comes as a  64" extended height in the 85 and 95 flex options.  All Intermediate and Junior Pro Blackouts are stock height and shaft dimension.

But don't take it from us!  Read through the Pro Blackout and Pro Blackout Extra Lite product reviews and see what others have to say about these awesome, low-priced sticks.

Sticks are stock height (60"-61") unless otherwise denoted by a shaft measurement following the flex in the variant description.

Some listings such as Junior stick listings will have the heights listed in the full stick description since they may differ based on the flex.

Standard Pro Blackout sticks are all stock height, while the Extra Lite model comes as a 64" extended height in the 85 and 95 flex sticks.

HockeyStickMan does not offer stick repairs with shipping involved.  This is a service that we can only provide to customers local-enough to our Toronto or Belleville stores that they can come by the physical store.

The cost of this service is $50.00 and takes around one week to complete.

Sticks can only be repaired if a break has been suffered along the shaft.

The area of repair is covered by a 30-day guarantee.  If breakage is suffered outside of this region, this would be a pre-existing issue prior to the repair and HockeyStickMan is not responsible.

99% of the sticks we order as well as get from our pro team partners are gripped.  With that, all sticks are gripped unless otherwise denoted in the variant description.

Sticks that are non-grip will be denoted as non-grip following the flex in the variant description.

Gift cards can be purchased online or in-store.

If bought online, you will receive a gift card to the email used for the purchase.  That email will contain a code (for purchasing from our online store) and QR code (for use in store).  If you are gifting this, you could either simply forward the email accordingly, or, if you'd like something more physical, just print out the email on paper as it will have the code and QR code.

If bought in store, we will have provide a physical gift card that has a QR code on it to use in store, and you'll also be sent a code to your email that you can use online instead.

Stick extensions - butt ends or end plugs as some call them - can be used to get some extra length out of your stick.  They can be very handy to get a stick that you're currently using or a stick that you're interested in to the perfect height.

We offer a few different options.  Our stock senior composite options start with this generic option here.  This option is nice because it comes without the glue.  Glue has a tendency to ship off and rattle around within your stick, a common annoyance for the seasoned hockey player.  Instead, use tape to tightly secure your extension such as seen in the video here.

We also have 18K carbon, Warrior Composite, and Wooden Extensions.

If you are buying an extension for an INTERMEDIATE stick, fo with the 18K or Warrior Composite option as they are a more tapered insert-end, and more likely to fit in your Intermediate stick without trouble.

For Junior sticks, we have an 18K composite as well as a wooden option.

  • Exchange can be for anything else in store.  Additional or lesser costs will be charged or refunded accordingly.

Pro Stock Warranty Explanation (Junior & Retail sticks omitted)

At HockeyStickMan, our mission is to provide hockey families with high quality equipment at a great price.  One of the main ways we do this is by offering Pro Stock, Closeout, and Pro Blackout sticks for well below comparable retail prices.

The vast majority of stick breaks are suffered outside of the 30-day coverage period that is standard at retail.  Outside of the 30 days from purchase date, players receive no coverage from the standard retail outlets.

Pro stock sticks are made and manufactured for players at the top level of the game, and were not initially intended to be sold at the retail level. They also have quality controls in place to ensure no manufacturer defects with which they warranty against at the retail level. As a result, no pro stock sticks carry a manufacturer’s warranty.  Instead, we have established a pricing structure to offer top-end sticks at the lowest possible price, rather than institute a full coverage policy that would result in our stick prices being no different than that of your standard retail outlets.

Saving money up front on a stick will more than pay for itself in the long run. With that being said, we are hockey players ourselves, and definitely understand how frustrating it is when a stick breaks quickly, so we do try to help in that situation, typically with a partial credit towards a replacement (full details below). This credit comes directly from HockeyStickMan and not the manufacturing company as is the case with standard retail warranties.

We also offer a selection of retail sticks with manufacturer warranties.  These sticks are HSM Approved as twigs that we think provide great value, even at retail price.  To help provide some extra value, we offer free shipping on most of these products.

Please be sure to review our Warranty Policy to ensure your understanding of your warranty eligibility prior to submitting your warranty claim.

When submitting your warranty claim, you'll need the following:

  • photos of the stick break
  • 1 photo of the information on the shaft - i.e. "P92 - 75 Flex" OR "Walsh 27"
  • 1 photo of the barcode/URL/Sin # on the back of the stick's shaft.

You can submit your warranty claim by quickly filling out our warranty form here.

Our team will review and get back to you as soon as possible.

If you purchased in store, feel free to bring the item back to any of our stores if it is eligible, and a team member can help you out in store.

Pro Stock sticks, which are largely what we sell, do not come with a manufacturer's warranty.  Please read why our pricing model is established with this in mind here prior to submitting your warranty claim.

You may be eligible for a partial credit towards replacement or future purchase if your stick meets the breakage criteria.

WHAT CLASSIFIES AS A BREAK

A broken stick that qualifies for a warranty will have the following damage:

  1. A complete break in the shaft or blade of the stick.
  2. A partial break or crack in the shaft or blade of the stick that renders the stick unusable.

WHAT DOES NOT CLASSIFY AS A BREAK

A stick may have the following damage, but does not qualify for a warranty:

  1. Surface marks or scuffing.
  2. Cosmetic scratch in the shaft or blade that does travel through the carbon fiber.
  3. Soft or  “Spongy” blades that still hold full rigidity.
  4. Whippy or “whipped-out” sticks
  5. A chip in the blade or shaft

In all instances, customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to a HSM location or providing images within their warranty claim of the stick within 30 days from purchase (or receipt of the stick in the case of shipping). Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within 30 days negates any eligibility for a partial credit.

Photo proof required

  • photos of the break/damaged area in question
  • Photo of the stick information on the namebar - i.e. "P92 75 Flex" OR "Thompson 27"
  • Photo of the the back of the shaft of the print code, URL, Sin #, or HockeyStickMan URL - whichever is applicable
  • If breakage is suffered along the shaft, both pieces of the stick are required to be eligible for warranty

PRO BLACKOUT™ BRAND STICKS

One-Week Full Credit - If a break meeting the above criteria is suffered within one week (7 days) of receiving a Pro Blackout, Pro Blackout Extra Lite, or Value Blackout, HockeyStickMan will grant a gift card credit for full value of the stick.

  1. Customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to a HSM location or providing images of the stick within one-week from purchase (or receipt of the stick in the case of shipping). Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within one-week negates the full replacement warranty and the stick will be eligible for partial credit only.
  2. Replacement sticks purchased with a full warranty claim come with no warranty (standard retail practice).

30-Day, 50% Coverage - If a break meeting the above criteria is suffered within 30 days of receiving a Pro Blackout, Pro Blackout Extra Lite, or Value Blackout, HockeyStickMan will offer a credit of 50% of the stick's cost.

For example, if a break is suffered on a Pro Blackout Extra Lite (priced at $149.99), we will award a credit of $75.00 if a break has been suffered within 30 days of receiving of the stick.

  1. Customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to a HSM location or providing images within their warranty claim online, of the stick within 30 days from purchase or arrival time in the case of shipping. Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within 30 days negates any eligibility for a partial credit.
  2. Sticks purchased with a split credit warranty are still eligible for HockeyStickMan’s standard warranty policy.

NEW PRO STOCK

One-Week 50% Credit - Sticks broken within the first week (7 days) of purchase (or arrival in the case of shipping) are eligible for a split credit equal to 50% of the stick’s value applied as a HockeyStickMan gift card .  This can be used online or in store.

  1. Customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to a HSM location or providing images of the stick within their warranty claim within 1 week (7 days) from purchase (or receipt of the stick in the case of shipping). Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within 1 week negates any eligibility for a partial credit.

30-Day Partial Credit - Sticks suffering breakage within 30 days, but outside of the one-week (7 days) coverage are eligible for a partial credit applied as a HockeyStickMan gift card through .com or .ca sites respectively.  You are eligible for the following credit:

  • $199.99 CAD+ Pro Stocks - $75 credit within the first 30 days
  • $100-$199.98 CAD Pro Stocks - $50 credit within the first 30 days

Refurbished Sticks & Customer Repairs

Refurbished Sticks - 30-day full replacement - A one-time full replacement will be issued for any break on a refurbished stick, issued in the form of a HockeyStickMan gift card of full value.

  1. Customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to a HSM location or submitting their warranty claim 30 days from purchase or arrival time in the case of shipping. Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within 30 days negates any eligibility for full replacement warranty.
  2. Refurbished sticks purchased with a full-credit are not eligible for a replacement.  I.e., you are eligible for a one-time replacement issued in the form of a full credit.  Coverage does not extend to the replacement stick

Customer Repair - If a customer has paid for a repair ($50) and their stick breaks at the site of repair within 30 days of purchase, they're $50.00 is given as a discount towards any replacement stick or a future purchase, given in the form of a gift card.

If breakage is suffered elsewhere outside of the spot of repair, this would have occurred without intervention from HockeyStickMan, and we are not responsible.  No credit is awarded in this case - we can only speak to the integrity of our repair.

Retail Sticks (Full MSRP)/All Junior (Besides Pro Blackout)

One-Time Full Replacement Warranty (30 days) - Retail model sticks are eligible for a standard 30-day manufacturer's warranty from the purchase date issued through HockeyStickMan. An exact replacement will be awarded.  If an exact replacement is not available, the full purchase value of the stick will be issued in the form of a HockeyStickMan gift card credit which can be used towards replacement(s).

  1. Customers must provide evidence of the broken stick, either by bringing it to an HSM location or filing a warranty claim within 30 days of receipt (or arrival of the stick in the case of shipping). Failure to provide evidence of the broken stick within 30 days negates any eligibility for a full replacement warranty.
  2. See the proof of evidence at the top of the articles.  These are the photos we need to submit your warranty claim though the manufacturer.  Without these things, we cannot process your warranty claim.

Used Sticks & Equipment

*All used sticks and equipment are sold as FINAL SALE and are not eligible for replacements, warranty, or store credit.  No exceptions.*

In using courier services to ship our goods to you, there is the inherent risk of damage in transit.

Please understand that while this is frustrating, HockeyStickMan is equally frustrated in the event that this occurs.  We intend for all of our packages to arrive in the mint condition that they leave our building in, however, once the package is no longer in our possession, the protection of the package is out of our hands.

Nevertheless, we intend to rectify these issues as quickly and seamlessly as possible.  If damage to your package has occurred, please fill out a warranty claim indicating that as such and include pictures of the following:

  1. Photo of the product packaging
  2. Photos clearly showing the break/damage to the product.
  3. Photo of the whole product.

Our team will review your claim to determine the severity.  One of the following may take place:

  • If damage is deemed significant, HSM will file a claim with the courier on your behalf, and have a replacement sent out.
  • If damage is deemed to be cosmetic or wouldn't affect the performance or durability of the stick, HSM may issue a small partial refund or offer to exchange for a new one
  • If the damage is deemed to be entirely insignificant - bleeding of a carbon weave, fold lines within the shaft of a stick, etc. - HSM will not award any credit.  You may submit a return/exchange request in this case, although it will incur a shipping return cost

In the event that the tracking information shows delivery, but you have not received the item, 1 of 3 things may have taken place:

1. The package was simply mis-scanned as delivered but is still on a delivery truck or in a carrier's warehouse.  Typically the package still progresses in transit and is delivered within the next business day or two

2. The package was delivered to the incorrect address.  Most carriers now include a proof-of-delivery photo which can quickly deduce whether it was your address or not.  If you recognize the address as one of your neighbours, feel free to retrieve that yourself.  We recommend knocking on your neighbours door/letting them know that you are just retrieving your misdelivered package.

3. The package has been stolen from your property.  Unfortunately, there exists people who prey upon packages delivered while the homeowner is away.  It is for this reason that we recommend opting for the signature-required delivery option for just $3.00 more.

If signature-required is not opted for, and the package is stolen from your property, HockeyStickMan nor the carrier is liable for your package.  These are very unfortunate circumstances and only truly avoidable by opting for the signature-required option.

Typically this is simply because you're just on the incorrect website.  Our .ca website services shipments to just Canada, while our .com website services everywhere else.

We ship to most countries overseas, but there are exceptions.

If a mistake was made by our fulfillment team, please fill out an exchange request here and simply select the same correct product as the item you would like to exchange for.

This is the quickest way for our team to have the situation rectified.

HockeyStickMan.ca is designed for shipments within Canada - we ship to anywhere in Canada.

HockeyStickMan offers free shipping on select products!

These items would generally be standard retail items as well as other sticks and gear sold at full MSRP, with the idea that we are offering additional value on these items that are priced the same or similar to their prices elsewhere.

Free shipping items need to meet a $100 threshold, which can be achieved by ordering one Free Shipping Eligible item that is $100+, or multiple Free Shipping Eligible items to hit that threshold.
Once that threshold is met with Free Shipping Eligible items, other items that aren't Free Shipping Eligible can still be added to your cart/order while keeping that Free Shipping status.  However, they will not count towards meeting that $100 threshold.

Free shipping is applied via a $20.00 shipping discount on your shipping cost.  This means that if you live in Continental USA, you will receive free standard shipping, or $9.99 express shipping (rather than $29.99). The same would apply to other countries and areas - it would be $20 off of the regular shipping price.

Free shipping cannot be stacked on other discount codes/loyalty codes/bundle and save discounts.  It will only apply in these cases if it grants you more savings than you would have otherwise received with another discount code.  It will supplant the other discount you are attempting to use.

You can find eligible products by filtering the sidebar for free shipping or looking for the icons in the top-right corner of selected products.

We list our sticks in the method that will give the most useful information in the most readable manner. All listings include handedness, curve and flex of the stick.  If no more details are included, the other features are stock (including grip, height, blade height etc.).

We do not list the color of the stick.  Our main concern is the performance and functionality of the stick, which allows our shoppers to find the perfect twig for their game!

A typical variant might look like this:

Left – P29 (Crosby) – 85 Flex (Blade 1)

In order this means that the stick is left handed, a P29 “Crosby” curve, and 85 flex.  Because there is no other info included, you can assume it is stock height (60-61” shaft), with grip, and without a max blade.  Blade 1 would be what we call a P29 curve (more info on that below)

A more complicated stick listing might look like this:

Right – P88M (Kane) – 87 Flex/66”/Max Blade/Non-Grip (Blade 2) *Dressed as 1X Lite*

In order, this shows the handedness (right), curve (P88M “Kane” – the M indicates max blade), flex (87), height (66” shaft), blade height (max), grip (none) and graphics (dressed as a Bauer Vapor 1X Lite).

In order to make our shopping experience as simple as possible, we have categorized the 17 most common curves we see to make it easier to shop across brands that produce the same curve but call it different names.  For instance, Blade 1 would refer to a CCM P29, Bauer P92, Warrior W03, True TC2 etc.

Many pro players will get custom curves that don’t fit in to our blade chart.  These curves are indicated as custom, and will often be compared to one of our 17 curves if they are have similar features.  They will feature a picture of that exact curve since they fall outside the standard current or former retail offerings.

Sticks that don't conform to this set of the standard 17 curves we see are denoted as a Custom curve and will have a picture of that specific curve when clicking that variant.  Check out stick listings with custom curve variants here.

We operate 2 locations in Ontario - the Toronto Showroom & the Belleville Warehouse.

Inventory is originally split evenly between the 2 locations.  However, for our Pro Stock sticks, we generally have a wide variety but with limited quantity, so quite often a certain stick is only available at one location.

Always call the location to make sure a stick is there before driving out.  You can also proceed to checkout online to see what pick-up location is available in order to verify the whereabouts of the stick.

We are always keeping an eye out for opportunities to purchase in bulk to provide great sticks at excellent prices, so sometimes will pick up some retail models.  Typically all top-end sticks will be pro stock, with the retail models being value options.

Occasionally pro teams will have a few retail models in their inventory that they had on hand as backup sticks, which we would treat as pro stock.

The bulk of our inventory is indeed Pro Stock.  However, there are some exceptions:

  • Our complete selection of Junior/Youth sticks are your standard retail variety.  We try to seek out opportunity buys, closeouts, etc., in order to provide some great value options, but also try to offer some of the latest and greatest that all of the kids want.
    • Logically, Junior sticks would never be Pro Stock sticks as a pro player, no matter gender or size, would almost assuredly be using at least an Intermediate.
  • Our offerings of standard retail sticks can be shopped here for Senior sticks, and here for Intermediate sticks

HockeyStickMan offers rewards and points that quickly accumulate to save you money on HocekyStickMan products!  Once logged in to your account, you can complete actions and redeem points for prizes and $ off from the Rewards page here.

If you do not already have an account, you can quickly sign up for one and start redeeming points here.

With an account, you get 5% of the money spent back in points alone, plus there are plenty of other actionable items such as signing up for our newsletter as well as our awesome Referral Program!

You can get even more value back by redeeming points for prizes and apparel such as our HSM Rink Hoodie or Made of Sticks products.

The core concept of what we do at HockeyStickMan is that we source Pro Stock sticks from our various pro team partners.  As such, we are at the mercy of what these players are using, including custom and unique specs that aren't available at the retail level.

This allows us to sell top-end twigs at the lowest possible price.  However, it also means that our inventory updates daily with new arrivals from the 150+ teams we work with.  The nature of this is that we never know exactly what specs are coming until they arrive and are processed.

The best way to check if we have a stick in or close to what you're looking for is to check the listing(s) of interest.  If you're looking for a specific stick model, the best thing to do is navigate to the listing you're interested in.  For example, if you're inquiring to see if we have a specific CCM Jetspeed FT4 Pro, please check out the stick listing to see what specs are available.

If you were looking for something less specific such as a low-kick, left-handed stick in 85ish flex, the best course of action would be to navigate to the All Senior Sticks section, and then filter accordingly for the specs that you are after.  Please bear in mind that this will provide sticks that have variants that meet some or all of the variants you're after, so part of the shopping experience is clicking through the different options to see what's available.

For more information on how to read our variant listings, check out the article here.

If you're having a tough time finding the specs you're looking for, we always have a wide selection (30+ curves!) in stock in our Pro BlackoutPro Blackout Extra Lite, and Pro Blackout Custom Extra Lite.   Available in Intermediate and Junior as well!

Discount codes unfortunately do not stack.  Only one discount code can be used per purchase.

HockeyStickMan gift cards, however, can be stacked.  Multiple gift cards can be used towards purchase, and on top of discount codes.

Prepaid gift cards (VISA, Mastercard, etc.) can only be used to fully pay for an order.  They cannot be used to split or partially pay for an order.  This is a limitation of the cards themselves.

If there is no pickup location available at checkout, it is possible that the item is only stocked at an offsite location.  Contact us if this issue occurs and we can troubleshoot further.

Top-end sticks on our website are all Pro Stock unless they are denoted as "- Retail" in the title of the product listing.  For example, the Trigger 8 Pro - Retail stick is denoted as retail, and would be Pro Stock if it were the listing that just said Trigger 8 Pro.

The pricing of retail sticks are also much higher than their Pro Stock equivalent as they are full MSRP.

We acquire both new and used steel from our pro team partners, as well as supplement our inventory with retail options that we deem to be good value.

Check out our available offerings here.

Check out our Blade Chart here for the blade or curve classification you are looking for on our website.

Unfortunately, we cannot.  HockeyStickMan exists as a company that offers products at our lowest possible price in order to make the game as affordable as we can.

However, our shipping costs are flat-rates, so you can certainly save by buying in bulk for the same rate!

If you are calling us from within Canada, please reach us at (1) 416-252-1111.

If you are looking to reach us by phone and are calling from outside of Canada, please reach us at (1) 613-967-6000.

HockeyStickMan monitors customer service channels (Email, Chatbox, DMs, Contact Form) very closely from 9-5 Monday-Friday, but still works to answer inquiries via these channels outside of these hours.

You can reach us by phone anytime during our regular business hours.

Inquiries and messages received are filtered into our queue by the date and timestamp they were sent.  With this in mind, sending multiple messages will continue to move you down the queue making it harder for us to get back to you.

While our inventory is split as evenly as we possibly can between our two locations, our Pro Stock stick inventory in particular is typically a wide variety of specs, but only a handful of each that we get at once.  Because of this, quite often sticks are only available for pickup at one location or another.

If you are proceeding to checkout, if only one location shows as available for pickup, than that indicates that it only exists at that location.

Sticks and other items will not be transferred to accommodate picking up in a different location.  You will need to pay our flat rate to have the item shipped.

Exceptions may be made to accommodate very specific, expensive items such as goalie gear and new skates.

If you a purchase has been refunded or you have returned an item for refund, refunds are (and can only be) made to the original form of payment.

Refunds are made upon receipt and inspection of the original item, and can take up to 3 business days for your bank to process.  You will, however, receive a refund notification to the email used for the order as soon as we've processed on our end.

All of our available inventory is available on our website.

To check availability, please check the listing you are interested in.  For example, if you are looking at the availability of the CCM Jetspeed FT6 Pro, you can search that stick title in the search bar in the top right or find it within the stick collection drop-down menus.

If you are looking for something more broad such as availability in Refurbished sticks, try searching the entire collection from within the 'Sticks' dropdown, filter specs you would be interested, and click through the options to check and see if there are any variants that interest you.

Absolutely!  HockeyStickMan is proud to offer the ELITE Sharpening and Profiling system.  Elite machines are used by 15 NHL teams such as the Toronto Maple Leafs and Montreal Canadiens + dozens of AHL, CHL, and NCAA programs.

ELITE machines allow us to ensure the perfect sharpen and profile every time, and get your skates ready within minutes.  No need to drop your skates off and return hours later.  Hang out for 5 minutes and we'll have you ready to hit the ice!

The ELITE sharpening system is the only machine on the market today that can maintain blade profile integrity with precision and consistency.  ELITE wheels are also made of an advanced steel alloy with a “synthetic diamond” CBN crystal coating.

The price per sharpen is $10 and the price for profiling is $35 for one pair of steel or $50 for 2 (handy if you have a backup pair of steel as this will ensure your profile is exactly the same between your blades).

We offer free profiling and sharpening on every new pair of Pro Stock skates or new pair of steel.

If you have a Indian/Native Status, we can setup your account via your email to recognize your status.  By signing up for or logging into your account, your status will automatically apply at checkout online or in store.

We just need you to send us a picture of the status card so that we can log your information onto your account, and then you'll be set for any future occurrence!  Send a picture and we'll get that setup.

Does hockey stick length affect performance?

Stick length can have a major impact on a player's game. A stick that is not the correct length affects both the hockey stick, and player's performance.

What part of you're game does stick length affect?

  • Stickhandling - the overall ability to control the puck
  • Your shot - Stick Flex (stiffness) is affected by stick length
  • Receiving passes - sitting flat on the ice (see Crosby below)
  • Your reach - Longer stick = better ability for poke checks and takeaways!

how long should my hockey stick be crosby

General Guidelines + Pros & Cons

The Rule-of-Thumb is that when a player is standing on flat-foot, with the tip of the sticks toe on the ground, a stick will be around the tip of their nose.  On skates, this will be about the height of your chin.

Of course, as with most things in the great game of hockey, it comes down to preference and play style.  Here's an outline of some pros and cons:

Short Hockey Stick

The Dangler” – Hockey players who are good at stick handling tend to prefer shorter sticks. Using a short stick makes it a bit easier to move the puck around because the stick will be lighter (less material) and a shorter stick is easier to move around the body. Many players who are good at stick handling tend to bring the puck in close to their body in order to protect the puck while pulling a deke. A short stick makes it easier to perform these moves.

Average Hockey Stick

The Grinder” - Grinders like to get in the corners, dig for pucks, and cause trouble in front of the net. With an average length stick you can still easily handle the puck, and also make poke checks, passes, and load up for wrist shots.

Long Hockey Stick

The Defensemen” – It is common for defensemen to have the longest sticks on the team. A long hockey stick gives you a longer reach, which makes it easier for you to poke the puck away from attackers,  intercept passes, and stop a puck before it leaves the offensive zone. Defensemen are also known to have hard slapshots, and a longer stick (with the right technique) will provide more power on the slapshots.

Read up on how hockey sticks are measured and listed on our website here.

The industry standard for measuring sticks is to do so using a shaft measurement.  Shafts are measured from the top of the shaft down the forehand or backhand side of the shaft, and the measurement ends at the bottom of the blade/heel.

For reference, stock height sticks are 60"-62" depending on the model. Sticks on our website are stock height unless otherwise denoted in the variant description.  Sticks that are not stock height on our website will have the shaft measurement following the flex.

Please see the following graphic for more clarity on measuring stick heights:

Read up on how tall your stick should be here.

To put it simply, Lie is a measure of the angle which a stick comes off the ice when the blade is flat on the ice.  Depending on their preferred skating posture and stick length, different players might prefer different lies to achieve maximum contact with the ice.

These days, almost every curve we see has been standardized with a lie between 5 and 6, so there isn't a need to worry about it too much.  For players looking for something outside that range, the typical options we'd recommend are our Blade 3 (for a lower lie), or Blade 7 (for a more upright lie).

Overall, these differences are quite slight; 2° of angle per one unit of lie.  Lie 5 would sit at 43°, Lie 6 at 45°, Lie 7 at 47°, and so on (Lie 5.5 would be 44°).

Rather than tinkering with lie, we tend to recommend adjusting the length of your stick instead, which we find has a far greater impact on having your blade sit flat on the ice when you are in your preferred skating position.

On pro stock sticks, which we typically deal with, lie is not labelled, so we in turn do not list the lie on our sticks.  That being said, in 99% of cases, the lie of a stick will align with the curve.  Below is a chart you can reference to find the typical lie for any given retail curve.

If you're wondering what the lie is on the hockey stick you're using or shopping, check out the graph below that applies in most cases:

The Elite Sharpening & Profiling System that HockeyStickMan uses is the most precise system on the market!  15 NHL teams have already switched to the Elite Sharpening and Profiling System, with more on the way.  Dozens of other AHL, CHL, and NCAA teams are also using the Elite System!

Are you wondering what would be the Elite comparable profile for the profile you've been using or would like to use?  Check out the graphic below!  Shoot us a message if you have any further questions and our Pro Shop team would be happy to assist.

In theory, any stick can be used for street hockey.  The game of street hockey itself, however, usually lends the stick to quicker blade wear due to the increased friction the stick faces on a non-ice surface.

One thing many street hockey players look to are ABS blade sticks as the blade is instead made of a reinforced plastic.  Not only does that mean more longevity for your twig, but it also can lend itself to better performance in street hockey.  Check out the Alkali Cele 3, an ABS blade stick available in Senior, Intermediate & Junior.

Another nice way to avoid breaking the bank for a ball or street hockey player that wants a lightweight twig is to check out our Refurbished Stick selection.

Check out the Hockey Wraparound for extra protection for your blade!

Sticks are weight-rated at a 60" stock height across essentially all brands.  Extended height sticks naturally carry additional weight due to the excess carbon.  Generally an extra inch of carbon will add 6-9 grams.

Sticks are also flex-rated at stock height, so an extended height stick may play a bit whippier than the stock height comparable.  The flex is technically the same, but innately the player has more leverage on a longer stick.  However, this means that you can cut an extended height stick down to stock height without impacting the flex-rating.

Skates differ in size, width, and volume across all manufacturers and models.  However, as a general rule, a skate fits 1 to 1.5 sizes lower than your shoe size.

For example, if you wear a size 10 shoe, you should shop a size 9 skate if you prefer a fit that's not overly tight, or a size 8.5 if you want a more form-fitting skate.

For a performance-fit, shop a skate that's 2 sizes smaller than your shoe size.  This allows for better energy-transfer on your strides, however, it's naturally going to be a longer and more difficult experience initially breaking your skates in and having them form to your foot.  This sizing model isn't for everyone, and your safer bet is to shop 1-1.5 sizes smaller than shoe size.

Standard sizing is typically denoted as 'D' or 'Fit 1.'  Some manufacturers also offer more narrow fit boots, typically denoted with 'C' (i.e. size 9C).  Most typically offer a wider or larger volume fit, denoted as 'E', 'W', or 'Fit 2'.  Some even offer a double wide fit, denoted as 'EE', 'WW", or 'Fit 3.'

Hockey pants and gear are senior unless otherwise denoted.

Hockey Pants are something that you want to fit properly, otherwise you will be restricted in your stride while skating. Pro Stock pants provide the unique option of different waist and length sizes! Small, medium and large refer to general sizing for the pants. The bonus is the “Extended Length”. This will be displayed as (Ex. +1”) which means that the pants have an extended length of 1”. So, if you are a taller player but with a smaller waist size, keep an eye out for the size you need in extended lengths.

Check out our fitting guide here.

Here is a general sizing chart for hockey pants:

As a general rule-of-thumb, stick flex should be about half of the player's body weight.  The higher the flex number, the stiffer the flex.

Once you get into the senior flexes (around 75 flex and up), players are tending to go closer to half their body weight minus 10.  I.e., a 190 lb player is more likely to use an 85 flex than a 95 flex.

While sticks can differ on occasion amongst different manufacturers, you can use the following breakdown as a general rule for the difference in size/age groups amongst hockey sticks:

Senior

  • Thickest and tallest shafts, longest blade lengths
  • Stock shafts are typically 60"-62".  Extended heights can go up to 68", but typically max out at 64" at retail.  Read here on how to measure a hockey stick.
  • Generally players as young as age 14 and up
  • Typically 5'6"+ and 140 lbs+. Some smaller adults still opt for the senior by virtue of being too strong for an Intermediate flex.
  • Flex ratings are generally 65 flex-95 flex.  We've seen as high as 155 flex at the Pro Stock level - thanks Chara!

Intermediate

  • Pretty close to senior shaft thickness, but a touch thinner.  Blades are generally the same size, but some select models have slightly shorter, smaller blades.
  • Stock height shafts are between 57"-59".  Extended height options may exist
  • Typically cater to players aged 11-16.
  • Player heights are generally 4'6"-5'5" and weight around 110-140 lbs.  Also popular amongst adult women players (even the pros!)
  • Flex rating 55-65.  Come as low as 50 and as high as 70 depending on the manufacturer.

Junior

  • Significantly smaller in shaft shape and blade size compared to Senior and Intermediate.
  • Shaft length coincides with flex & differs across make & model:
    • 50 flex - ~54"
    • 40 flex - ~52"
    • 30 flex - ~48"
  • Typically cater to age 6-12
  • Height range of 3'9"-4'9".  Weight 50-110 lbs
  • Flex rating 30-50

Youth

  • Smallest sticks in both height and thickness - just introductory sticks for young players getting onto the ice for the first time
  • Typically 45" for 20 flex, as high as 48" for 30 flex
  • Ages 6 and under
  • No taller than 4' and no heavier than 60 lbs
  • 20 flex typically.  Sometimes 30 flex and even 10 flex are available.
